It appears this raid is now officially an Alt gearing raid. If my assessment is correct i'm withdrawing. I'll be available for the next 2 weeks so you can find a replacement.

Kor, the only reason I brought Aryeh instead of Maggen to Ulduar was because then you would have had three tanks in the raid. It wasn't about getting her loot, so much as bringing a character that was both unlocked and worked with the raid comp. On nights when Hep can't make it, I'm happy to bring Maggen like usual.

Tziva you weren't the only one swapping to alts. I'm sure everyone who did for either Ony, ToC, or Ulduar has very logical "reasons" for their swaps. Thing is, if content isn't relevant for people to bring their mains and focus, then it's not relevent enough for me to want to be involved. Ulduar is a complete and total waste of time IMO, and others seem to be saying (through their choice in Characters) that Ony and ToC are also. ToGC seems to be "too hard" in people minds so they would rather swap to alts and wipe in Ulduar instead. I have no problems gearing new players etc but I'm frustrated and view alot of my time in raid anymore as a waste of time and consumables, and it appears (through their choice in characters and Instance) others do too.

I can't speak for anyone else, but the reason I'm switching out for Ulduar is that we need a healer who can swap to DPS for hard modes. I don't have a DPS gear set for Elistrya and -- more importantly -- I am really terrible at melee DPS; I will never do the DPS with a ret paladin that I will with a caster. My aim isn't to get Zsari geared up through raids. It's to provide the most utility to 9man. The reason we didn't want to have Phinius switch is that a paladin and a priest working together provide a great deal more utility in healing than two paladins.

That said, if me sticking with Eli will keep you in the raid, I'd be glad to do that.

Eli...your swap, for Ulduar, isn't/wasn't the problem... there is a bigger picture then any one person.

overly long reply...

Honestly, I am not really sure what I can do to relieve the issue. I am part of the problem, but I'm also just a sub.

I come to Nine Man on Wednesdays cos you guys need people when I am often not busy, and obviously because I like you all. But I'm just a sub, so my priorities are always to my reserved raids. If To 11 needs a tank that week, I'm going to lock in Maggen to help out. I try to extend my offer to help Nine Man by saying, "I can't bring Maggen this week, but I can offer so-and-so." Since you always seem to need people, I usually get taken up on the offer. It's not because I am trying to make a circus of your raid by flipping around alts or because I'm using you guys to gear up people... it's just because I don't always have the same characters available to offer.

And unfortunately, the issue is exacerbated by the fact you guys use four lockouts just on Wednesday (TOC, TOGC, Onyxia and Ulduar) so I just can't promise the same character is going to be unlocked for all of them. Further complicating it is the fact that the two characters I do have unlocked most weeks -- Maggen and Aryeh -- have lately not been the roles you need. Merapeh and Tziva, on the other hand, are often locked into at least some of these each week.

So. As long as you need me to sub, I'm going to contribute to this problem, albeit totally unintentionally.

Hidden text: show
For example, last night Hep subbed for you. He has no DPS spec, so bringing Maggen (who also does not) would have been bad for the team. Since I desperately need badges on Tziva, it seemed mutually beneficial to bring her for as much of the content as I could. I didn't figure that would hurt the team, since she IS my best geared DPS. However, once you moved to Ulduar, my choices were limited to Maggen or Aryeh. Either I could have stepped out entirely and left you a man down, or I could have brought someone subpar. I brought someone subpar because I figured that was better than the alternative, especially considering the content was a tier old.

I try to make Maggen the character most available to you, for consistency. However, when you have two warriors already, and one of them who is prot-only, there is really not much I can do but say "nevermind then."

I will gladly admit that I wanted badges on Tziva last night so I was anxious to bring her, but that was also reliant on the assumption that bringing my main (who is my best DPS and my best geared) would not be a hindrance to the raid. If I had thought, for any reason, that I would fuck you guys by bringing her, I wouldn't have.

ANYWAY.

Long story short is that every Wednesday that I'm available, I am going to offer you whatever I have available, but sometimes its going to be a different character and sometimes it may even be only for a role you don't need or want. No one is required to take me up on it, however, and if you can find someone better, or someone more consistent, or someone who doesn't need to flip characters between instances, you should absolutely bring them instead. If you don't have anyone else, this is the best I can do.

At the end of the day, I'm just here to help, so if I'm not doing that, then please don't have me sub and fuck up your raid comp.

So, let me put it out there.

We're not an alt-gearing raid.

Have we been having problems with getting bodies in seats? Yes. That's my fault. Frankly I want to see the endgame we currently have in Ulduar and ToGC before it becomes obsolete.

However, as a result of my poor recruiting we've had folks less-than-geared for proper progression. Some have brought alts to handle balance issues or to cover for an accidental raid sub earlier in the week.

So, I'm putting my foot down.

We're not in the business of gearing alts. If that was the case I would have brought Light a long time ago. Were here to see the content and kick its ass. Yes, we're a casual raid. But not so casual we won't do anything except the same tired crap.

If you're DPS and want to gear a DPS alt, it won't be in 9-man. If you're a healer and want to gear a healing alt solely to gear it, do it elsewhere. Same for tanking.

We'll work on Grand Crusader Sunday and I'd like to hear from others what folks would like to see from this raid until Icecrown opens up.

To be blunt I'm asking you to stay, Kor.
